Our team of more than 2,000 volunteers offers their time and services at a wide variety of locations throughout our network. See which locations are best for you.
Due to COVID-19, many of the programs below have been limited on-site, while others have been created or transitioned to virtual. Apply today to learn how you can volunteer on-site or from your home. Positions affected by COVID-19 will become available again as we transition out of the pandemic.

Allegheny General Hospital
Allegheny General Hospital is the flagship hospital of Allegheny Health Network. This is the perfect location for anyone looking for a busy, fast-paced environment on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Volunteers from all walks of life contribute their time and talents in a variety of meaningful ways, including patient rounders, greeters, help with patient mail, pet therapy, reiki therapy, music, running our care cart, pastoral care, and more.
Allegheny Valley Hospital
At Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, volunteer roles include help with patient care, administrative and customer service tasks, as well as additional roles that align with their interests and talents.
Canonsburg Hospital
As a community-based hospital, Canonsburg fosters a family environment where everyone comes together to help one another out. Volunteers can expect close one-on-one interaction and learning opportunities in services like patient activity cart rounding, helping in the Serenity Room, handwashing observation, and fall purposeful rounding. Canonsburg also welcomes high school students ages 16–17 through its Junior Volunteer Program.
Forbes Hospital
Located in Monroeville and close to the PA Turnpike, Forbes Hospital hosts a Level II Trauma Center and provides care for patients affected by life-changing injuries. The Forbes Volunteer Family welcomes community members to help in a wide variety of roles from patient support to clerical tasks.
AHN Grove City
Volunteers at AHN Grove City provide a personalized experience the moment patients and visitors come through the main entrance. Our volunteers are happy to help patients and the community by supporting the hospital it serves. AHN Grove City welcomes anyone willing to donate their time and unique talents.
Hospital Elder Life Program locations
The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) gives volunteers the opportunity to connect with geriatric patients through clinical bedside interventions. Volunteers provide a specialized, more comfortable experience by focusing on orientation, feeding and hydration, therapeutic activities, and meaningful conversation. HELP has opportunities at Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital. Both locations require a minimum commitment of 120 hours of service.
Jefferson Hospital
The volunteers at Jefferson Hospital help create a legacy of service and compassion for patients, visitors, and staff in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. From volunteering at the front desk to comforting patients who are sick or injured, every purposeful encounter enriches the mission and vision of Jefferson Hospital as a whole. Jefferson Hospital strives to place volunteers in clinical and non-clinical roles depending on your preference and comfort level.
Outpatient centers
There are likely volunteer opportunities just minutes away from your home at one of our outpatient centers, AHN Cancer Institute locations, Health + Wellness Pavilions, or Neighborhood Hospitals. Volunteer roles often include patient interaction and are typically available Monday through Friday for those aged 18 and older. There’s a Junior Volunteer Program available at the Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion for students ages 16–17 on Saturdays and in the summer.
Saint Vincent Hospital
At Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, volunteers serve in patient care, administrative, hospitality, customer service, special event, and pastoral care. Our volunteers enrich the lives of our patients, families, visitors, and staff. Volunteers take on meaningful assignments, benefit from learning and skill development, and often form lasting friendships.
West Penn Hospital
Known for excellent nursing care and leading-edge services, West Penn Hospital in the city of Pittsburgh is home to many nationally recognized centers. West Penn’s volunteers play a large part in making the facility and patient experience remarkable for patients and visitors. Volunteers make one-to-one connections through patient rounding, baby cuddling, the healthy food center, cart rounding, and visits with patients.
Wexford Hospital
There are multiple opportunities for volunteers to enrich the experience of patients, visitors, and staff, at AHN’s newest hospital in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.
