AHN's Premier Medical Associates Honored as 2023 Acclaim Award Recipient by American Medical Group Association

PITTSBURGH – The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) has named Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Premier Medical Associates (PMA) as this year’s recipient of its Acclaim Award. This is the second time that the Monroeville-based physician group has received the prestigious award.

As the Acclaim Award recipient, Premier Medical Associates is recognized as the nation’s premier health care delivery organization that has successfully aligned itself with the ‘Quadruple Aim’ – a health care framework which AMGA believes is essential for medical groups and integrated health systems as they move toward value-based care.

The framework encompasses improving the patient experience, improving population health with a focus on quality health outcomes, improving equitable access to care, reducing the per capita cost of health care and emphasizing workplace wellness for health care workers.

“The purpose of the Acclaim Award is to recognize organizations that exemplify the highest ideals of the AMGA model of care,” said Jerry Penso, MD, president and CEO, AMGA. “Premier Medical Associates has aligned their physician workforce within a culture of value-based care and demonstrated remarkable improvements in both patient satisfaction and provider wellness.”

According to AMGA, Premier was recognized for the following initiatives:

  • Developing a strong focus on improving the control of chronic diseases, increasing screening rates and improving immunization rates to reduce the incidence of preventable diseases
  • Creating a patient experience committee and appointing patient experience managers
  • Participating in a Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) that includes provider and hospital participants across three states
  • Attaining level 3 NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home certification continuously since 2013
  • Creating an equity dashboard for colorectal cancer screening rates, hypertension control, diabetes control and more

“The AMGA framework drives all our value-based programs at Premier, and their guidance has greatly assisted us in our quest to develop a sustainable population health model of care,” said Bob Crossey, DO, president of Premier and quality officer at the AHN Primary Care Institute. “As a two-time recipient of the Acclaim Award, we are humbled by this honor which stands to accelerate our continuous journey toward providing the best value-based care to the communities we serve.”

Premier Medical Associates is the largest multi-specialty physician practice in the Greater Pittsburgh area with 100 providers, 22 medical services and specialties delivering care in 10 convenient locations. Premier is headed by a nationally awarded physician and leadership team, representing over 400 employees.

“We congratulate the clinicians and staff at Premier for once again being recognized with this much deserved award. Their unique approach to providing outstanding care in supportive environments for both patients and caregivers has helped set a standard for health care delivery that is emulated across our network,” said Bill Johnjulio, MD, chair, AHN Primary Care Institute.
