West Penn Hospital School of Nursing Student Outcomes

We set high expectations for our graduates based on their performance in key areas. In particular, we’re proud of how our graduates perform on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX^®-RN) on their first attempt; the number of students who complete their coursework in the allotted time frame; and in the number who find a job in a health care setting within their first year after graduation.

NCLEX-RN Performance

Expected outcome: Our program’s annual licensure pass rate is at or above 80% for all first-time test takers (as reported by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing Annual Period October 1 through September 30).

Cohort completion percentage (normal and allotted time)

Expected Outcome: 60% of students who begin their first nursing course will complete the program within eight academic terms, which is 100% of the usual time frame for the program. 70% will complete the program within 12 academic terms, which is the 150% allotted completion time.

Graduates employed in an RN role within one year post-graduation

Expected outcome: 90% of graduates who seek employment as an entry-level registered nurse will obtain a position in a health care setting within one year of graduation. Here are the results from the previous three years.
