In-person intensive outpatient program (IOP) for teens

The Blazier Clinic offers a six-week, in-person group therapy treatment program for teenagers ages 14 to 18 who are still in high school.

This program is for teenagers with a primary diagnosis of a mood or anxiety disorder that’s causing a significant level of impairment in their daily lives.

In-person treatment sessions take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for six weeks from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

To register, patients must have a referral from a provider.

If your teen is showing symptoms of a mood or anxiety disorder but does not have a current diagnosis, you can find an AHN Psychiatry and Behavioral Health provider who specializes in child and adolescent behavioral health.

Our approach

The Blazier Clinic Adolescent IOP uses multiple therapies in its treatment approach, including:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): This therapy helps teens identify and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to their emotional and behavioral struggles. By understanding the link between thoughts, feelings, and actions, they learn to develop healthier coping mechanisms and build resilience.
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT): DBT equips teens with skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviors. It emphasizes acceptance of both their strengths and weaknesses, while at the same time encouraging positive change through mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness training.
  • Mindfulness training: This practice teaches teens to focus on the present moment without judgment, fostering a sense of calm and reducing stress. Mindfulness techniques can also improve sleep quality and cultivate a more positive outlook on life.

We limit each therapy group to six participants at a time and enroll patients on a rolling basis. Small therapy groups in an IOP can provide a safe space for teens to learn from others who have similar struggles. It can promote healthy social skills and help participants feel less alone.
