Favorite Spot in Erie: Pressed, an independent book store/coffee shop! The coffee is great and they have a wonderful membership program if you buy a lot of books.

Previous Lives: I am married with 4 children and 2 dogs (counts as 6:1 in different lives lived per year). Was a paramedic that did mostly private EMS, some flight, some fire. I was also a death investigator for a short period.
Reason for choosing Saint Vincent: Because they treated me like I mattered and they continue to do so. Sick patients, seemingly frequent zebra pathology, comradeship from my fellow residents and attendings. Also epic EMR.
Favorite Spot in Erie: Elk Creek, or any spot to cast a fly rod. Kids like Presque Isle more than anything. 
Favorite Book besides Tintinalli: I have too many. There are 2 series I read every year. Enders Quintet and Codex Alera.

Previous Lives: I'm from Joplin, Missouri, and went to college at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. I met my fiance Camille there and we came back to Joplin where I went to medical school at KCU-Joplin as part of the first class. I enjoy working on vintage cars and motorcycles. I just finished a 1971 Austin Mini Cooper that I brought with me to Erie. In my free time I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with our poodles, Genevieve and Gemma. 
Reason for choosing Saint Vincent: As soon as I interviewed with Saint Vincent, I knew this place was special. The program is exceptionally well-rounded and provides a unique training environment for emergency medicine. I knew that this program would allow me to thrive as a resident and help me develop the skills that I need to advocate and care for my patients in the emergency department.
Favorite Spot in Erie: Presque Isle is, without question, my favorite place to go in Erie.

Previous Lives: Practiced as house officer in my home country of Nepal for a few years in the department of Gastrointestinal Oncosurgery and Pediatric Cardiology. Also, worked as a preliminary surgery resident in New York before I joined Saint Vincent. 
Reason for choosing Saint Vincent: Our program director is a knowledgeable and kind human and also all of the amazing and kind people in the ER department who make you feel welcomed and included. It encourages you to be better everyday in a very humble way. Also, Erie is a very beautiful place to live.

Previous Lives: I went to Medical School back home in Iraq but unfortunately I had to start everything over here in the U.S. Bittersweet because I got to attend Mercyhurst University where I met my wife, was taught by exceptional professors and got to work at Saint Vincent Hospital as a Patient Care Technician for 6 years. I was a teacher, soccer player and a dissector before I became a doctor.
Reason for choosing Saint Vincent: It was a natural decision for me because this hospital has a welcoming atmosphere, friendly environment, exceptional training and offered me my first job here in the U.S. before going to medical school. Saint Vincent Hospital is my second home!!

Reason for choosing Saint Vincent: I had mixed feelings when I first drove to Erie for shadowing shifts. However, on my way back, I could not be happier to have taken the time to visit this awesome program. I felt part of the team and wholeheartedly welcomed. It was all great vibes. It was a no-brainer to have Saint Vincent as my top-ranked program. 
Favorite Spot in Erie: I love Erie's winding roads. It's an awesome city. 
Favorite Book besides Tintinalli: "Interstellar" would be my favorite book if only I read as many books as I watch movies.

To top it off, the EM staff (attending physicians, nurses and technicians) worked in unison to achieve the best possible patients' outcome, I realized I wanted to be part of this team.
