Internal Medicine Residency - Primary Care Track

Primary care physicians are in high demand across the nation. If this is your passion, our Primary Care Track is designed to train you to be an outstanding general internist and will give you time to develop your skillset in the inpatient and outpatient settings. We do this by providing you with a balanced curriculum that allows you to maximize your time in a variety of ambulatory settings.

In the Primary Care Track, you will:

  • Spend less time on inpatient rotations so you can experience a more outpatient-focused curriculum
  • Experience additional in-depth training in subspecialties that will be relevant to you as the primary care physician, such as women’s health, men’s health, musculoskeletal medicine, psychiatry, outpatient oncology, outpatient neurology and the option to do many other outpatient electives
  • Enhance your didactic learning experiences by participating in dedicated primary care track lectures
  • Opportunities to get involved in primary care research
  • Mentorship from primary care faculty who will guide you in choosing a career in general internal medicine tailored to your interests

Our primary care track is directed by Nicole Sacca, DO with the aid of the primary care chief resident. The primary care chief will arrange your schedules, organize the didactics you will experience during your ambulatory care month, and provide you with peer support.

The Primary Care Track curriculum meets the requirements of the ACGME for successful graduation from the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

The Primary Care track does not have its own NRMP match number. Instead, we select four residents each year who express an interest in and commitment to primary care. When you are granted an interview, please let the program coordinator know about your interest in this track.
