This allows us to quickly and accurately detect, diagnose, and even treat a wide range of conditions.

Comprehensive imaging services in Pittsburgh’s South Hills

AHN Jefferson Hospital offers a full range of diagnostic imaging tests and services close to home, including:

Angiography

Angiography is a type of interventional radiology that can detect, diagnose, and help treat heart disorders, stroke, and diseases in your blood vessels.

Computed tomography (CT)

A CT scan uses a computer and a series of X-rays to create more detailed images of your bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues. A CT scan can be used to diagnose disease or injury and plan medical, surgical, or radiation treatment.

Fluoroscopy

This test produces real-time images of internal organs to see if they’re functioning effectively. It’s most often used on the gastrointestinal tract, specifically the stomach and colon.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

MRIs use radio waves and strong magnetic fields to help your physician see highly detailed images of internal body structures and organs without using radiation.

Nuclear medicine

These tests inject small doses of radiation through an IV and special cameras to diagnose or determine the severity of diseases like cancer, heart disease, and gastrointestinal, endocrine, and neurological disorders.

Positron emission tomography (PET)/CT

A PET scan is an imaging test that uses specialized dye to see if your heart is receiving enough blood or if there is any damage to the heart muscle. Doctors can combine this test with a CT scan (known as a PET/CT) to more quickly and accurately assess cardiovascular disease while limiting the dose of radiation you receive.

Ultrasound

Ultrasounds use sound waves to create detailed images of organs, tissues, and other structures. Jefferson Hospital offers general ultrasounds and vascular ultrasounds, which can help doctors find blockages in the arteries and veins in your arms, neck, and legs.

Walk-in X-ray imaging

X-rays use electromagnetic waves to create black and white pictures of structures inside your body. The test only takes a few minutes and is typically used to look for problems affecting joints and bones. AHN Jefferson offers walk-in X-ray imaging, which means you don’t need to have an appointment.

Mammography services at AHN Jefferson Breast Center (Suite 309)

The Jefferson Breast Center now has state-of-the-art screening tech — making it easier than ever to get high-quality breast care closer to home.

Our expanded Breast Center offers:

  • Screening and diagnostic mammograms. These tests use low-energy X-rays to find tumors, masses, or other abnormalities within breast tissue.
  • Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). This noninvasive test helps determine your risk for osteoporosis by measuring your bone mineral density.
  • Image-guided breast procedures.
  • Upgraded imaging and ultrasound machines.
  • An on-site radiologist for additional testing if needed.
