AHN Clinical Rotation Experiences

Health Sciences works with Allied Health and graduate level students to complete the necessary student onboarding process required for clinical rotations and educational experiences within Allegheny Health Network.

Please note that Health Sciences does not manage shadow/observer experiences, medical students or undergraduate nursing students.

Eligibility Requirements

  •  The student must be currently enrolled at a college/university that has a current and executed affiliation agreement with AHN
  • The student must be obtaining educational hours as a requirement of their program/degree

If you do not fit the above criteria and are a student seeking shadowing hours, please find the external website regarding the Shadow Observer Experience.

Obtaining a Preceptor

AHN cannot guarantee placement of every student needing a clinical rotation. Health Sciences does not place students for clinical rotations or educational experiences.

Each student is to work directly with their school to be aligned with a Preceptor for the clinical rotations needed. Once those details are identified, the student can begin the Student Onboarding Process.

**This section does not apply to PA/CRNP schools and/or students.  Please refer to the AHN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Student Education Office below for details on student rotation placements.

Student Intake Form

To begin the student onboarding process, students must already have an AHN preceptor/provider that has agreed to host their clinical rotation.  Once a preceptor has agreed to the student placement, the student should complete the  Student Intake Form within the appropriate timeframe:

  • All student intake forms must be submitted at least three weeks, but as early as 90 days, prior to the rotation start date.
  • We reserve the right to delay a rotation start date if the student intake form is submitted less than three weeks prior to the start date.
  • We are unable to process any students prior to 90 days from the rotation start date, and students will be asked to resubmit the intake form within the appropriate timeframe.

myClinicalExchange

All student rotations and experiences with AHN are managed through myClinicalExchange (mCE), which is required to be utilized by all students coming to AHN. The cost of the associated student account fee is the responsibility of the student or school and is paid directly to mCE for the individualized student account. mCE is not exclusive to AHN.

All affiliated schools/universities must have their respective student programs set
up within mCE prior to the student initiation of the onboarding process. We are
unable to process any students if the school/university is not set up within
mCE.

AHN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Student Education Office
