Message from Allegheny Health Network Regarding Blackbaud Data Breach

PITTSBURGH – Blackbaud, a vendor of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network, was recently the victim of a ransomware attack. AHN is working to notify individuals whose data may have been improperly accessed as a result of the breach.

Blackbaud is a global information technology company that provides software and cloud computing services to a variety of organizations, including nonprofits such as hospitals; AHN uses Blackbaud to maintain the health network’s fund-raising records and donor database.

Earlier this year, Blackbaud was the victim of a sophisticated ransomware attack that affected thousands of Blackbaud’s client organizations and their individual donors. Following an investigation into the theft, it was determined that AHN was one of the affected clients.

Blackbaud has assured AHN that no credit card information, bank account information, or social security numbers related to AHN patients or donors were accessed, and there is no evidence at this time that any data was made available publicly or otherwise misused. Blackbaud’s investigation has also concluded that the compromised data was destroyed following the ransomware attack, and was not made accessible to additional third parties.

AHN is continuing to closely monitor the situation alongside Blackbaud’s cyber security team, independent forensics experts, and law enforcement agencies, and it will keep its donors appropriately informed of any further developments.
