AHN Announces March Saturday Screening Event at Forbes Cancer Institute

MONROEVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cancer Institute will host its monthly Saturday cancer screening clinic on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at AHN Forbes Cancer Institute.

Registration opens today, Feb. 12, 2025, to both AHN and non-AHN patients. Those interested in attending must make an appointment by calling 412-359-6665. Patients with or without insurance are encouraged to attend the screening clinic.

Patients may receive up to seven screenings in one day, all at one location. Screenings may include:

  • Breast cancer (ages 40-74)
  • Cervical cancer (ages 21-65)
  • Colorectal cancer (ages 45-75)
  • Head and neck cancers (ages 18+)
  • Lung cancer (ages 50-80 with a history of cigarette smoking)
  • Prostate cancer (ages 45-75)
  • Skin cancer (ages 18+)

March is recognized annually as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, which stresses the importance of routine screenings and awareness regarding the rise in colorectal cancer cases. The American Cancer Society’s 2025 Cancer Facts and Figures report recently revealed the rate of new diagnoses of colorectal cancer in men and women younger than 65 years of age has increased, prompting doctors to encourage routine screenings to detect cancer at an early stage.

"At AHN, we’re seeing firsthand the concerning increase in colorectal cancer among younger patients, so it is critically important to never ignore anything your body is telling you and get checked at any age.” said James McCormick, DO, chairperson of the colon and rectal cancer program at AHN. “We want to live healthy, vibrant, active lives at every age.  This isn't just about getting older; it's about taking control of your health and routine screenings are no longer a suggestion – they're a vital preventative measure.”

In 2024, a total of 116 colorectal cancer screenings were performed at the Saturday cancer screening clinics throughout Western Pennsylvania. Of those screenings, 106 yielded normal results, while 10 yielded abnormal results and required additional testing.

Future screening events will be held at Saint Vincent Cancer Institute in Erie on April 5, West Penn Cancer Institute on May 17, and Jefferson Cancer Institute on June 21.

The AHN Cancer Institute has been offering one-stop comprehensive cancer screenings since 2014. The program’s success and need for prevention and early detection in the region has led to the cancer screening program being offered monthly on Saturdays across Western Pennsylvania for the last four years.

For those unavailable to attend a Saturday clinic, comprehensive cancer screenings are available by appointment at Jefferson Hospital and Forbes Hospital. Patients can call 412-359-6665 to schedule an appointment for the Jefferson and Forbes screenings.
