About the center
The center was developed with input from AHN caregivers and patients themselves. This was to ensure that we’re meeting patients’ needs and creating a calm, welcoming environment. A place where you have access to not only your doctors, but also wrap-around support services to give you the best possible quality of life.
Modern exam rooms are designed to address any disabilities and sensory issues patients experience, including dimmed lighting and noise reduction. Each room will be equipped with monitors so many physicians can take part in consultations remotely and so family who can't join in person can be part of the visit.
A nurse navigator may be assigned to you to provide personalized assistance and guidance throughout your care journey. The navigator focuses on all the details, from your appointments and treatment plan to coordinating financial/insurance counseling and connecting you to mental health support and other resources.
Support services include speech, physical and occupational therapy, behavioral and mental health support, nutrition and exercise therapy, and financial/insurance counseling. We also connect you and your family with community resources to help navigate the challenges of living with a chronic neurological condition.
Caregiver support for families who take care of loved ones with chronic neurological diseases. We offer behavioral health services, respite care, and support groups.
Amenities and comforts designed to make your experience here a little easier. This includes a café, a health and wellness education center, and conference rooms for patient support groups, educational sessions, and community meetings.

Research and Innovation
The AHN Neuroscience Institute has specialists with expertise in every type of neurological condition and a research program that invites physicians from all over the world to bring their good ideas and evolve them into clinical trials.
We’re committed to providing leading-edge technologies and procedures, so our patients have the best possible outcomes. Some recent innovations include:
- ChemoID® is a test that uses a patient’s live tumor cells to indicate which chemotherapy will kill bulk tumor and cancer stem cells.
- Deep brain stimulation uses electrical impulses to the brain to treat epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, obesity, opioid addiction, obsessive compulsive disorder, dystonia, and Alzheimer's.
- GammaTile™ is a small bioresorbable collagen tile placed at a tumor site immediately following tumor removal to deliver radiation therapy.
- Intracept™ targets a nerve located in the vertebrae called the basivertebral nerve to treat lower back pain.
- Mazor X™ is a 3-D imaging system to view the bones of the spine before surgery. This helps surgeons plan precisely for implant and instrument positioning before the surgery and eliminates the need for additional preoperative testing.
- Nerivio™ is a wearable device that uses electrical impulses to stimulate nerves in the upper arm and trigger the brain’s pain-management response.
- Neuroendoscopy uses innovative techniques and endoscopic instruments to treat complex brain and spine diseases in new ways. An endoscope is a tube with a lens and light source at the end that a surgeon carefully guides through small openings of the body.
- Optune Lua™ is a portable electric field generator that slows the growth of cancer cells.
- OsteoCool™ uses radiofrequency energy to destroy spinal tumors. At the same time, surgeons perform kyphoplasty surgeries to fill any fractures with a special cement bond.
- Rapid AI® uses artificial intelligence software to help physicians make quick diagnoses and treatment decisions.
- ReActiv8® is a device implanted underneath the skin to stimulate the nerves that control the multifidus muscle. Patients control the device, which provides a 30-minute deep-tissue massage twice a day.
- ROSA ONE™ is like a GPS device for the brain. It provides the surgeon with a roadmap to reach the intended brain targets.
- Synaptive’s Modus V™ is a surgical robotic arm with a high-powered digital microscope. It provides surgeons with an unprecedented view of a patient’s anatomy for less invasive procedures and more precision.
- TOPS™ is a surgical implant that treats spinal conditions like lumbar spinal stenosis and degenerative spondylolisthesis.
- Visualase™ MRI-Guided Laser Ablation System delivers laser heat therapy to destroy brain tumors.
The Future of Neurosciences at AHN
The five-story Integrative Neuroscience Center at AGH is dedicated to the treatment and long-term holistic management of neurological diseases. We will continue enhancing this space with support services that provide a concierge-type experience for our patients and their families. Future enhancements include:
- Facial recognition software: When patients enter the building, they will automatically be checked in, eliminating any unnecessary check-in processes and simplifying the arrival experience.
- Map in an app: Patients will have an app that guides them from their home to AGH and then through the building.
- Valet service at Hemlock: This will allow patients and their drivers to pull up to the front door and let the valet attendant park their cars.
