AHN Saint Vincent honors Melissa Fowler, MD, and Frederick Havko, MD, FACEP for Doctors’ Day 2025

ERIE, PA (March 27, 2025) – AHN Saint Vincent Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network, is celebrating National Doctors’ Day with a physician breakfast and luncheon on March 27.

One of the day’s highlights will be a ceremony honoring 2025’s two outstanding AHN Saint Vincent physicians — clinical pathologist Melissa Fowler, MD, and emergency medicine physician Frederick Havko, MD, FACEP. The ceremony will take place in the McGarvey Learning Center at the hospital at 11 a.m.

National Doctors' Day, observed annually on March 30, is a day to recognize and thank physicians for their dedication and commitment to health care. Each of the today’s honorees will be recognized with a gift of $500 to their chosen charities. Dr. Fowler has chosen Second Harvest Food Bank as her charity, and Dr. Havko has chosen St. Paul’s Free Clinic.

Dr. Fowler earned her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed residencies in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she served as chief resident in both disciplines.

She is in practice with Pathology Associates of Erie at AHN Saint Vincent. At the hospital, she has served on the Oncology Committee, and is currently the Chair of the hospital’s Department of Pathology.

Dr. Fowler is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She is a member of the American College of Clinical Pathologists, the U.S. and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the American Society for Clinical Pathologists.

Dr. Frederick Havko, MD, FACEP, serves as an attending physician in the emergency department at the hospital.

He earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh and completed his residency at York Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy.

In 1995, he joined AHN Saint Vincent, where he has long served as an attending physician in the emergency department. More recently, he has also provided care for patients in the emergency department, and served as Medical Director, at Westfield Memorial Hospital, part of AHN.

At Saint Vincent, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including Chairperson of the Division of Emergency Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Medicine and President of the Saint Vincent medical staff. Dr. Havko's contributions at the hospital also extend to various hospital committees and leadership positions focused on quality, operations, and medical direction.

Since 1999, he has also served as adjunct clinical assistant professor at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

"The impact of these two physicians on the lives of our patients and the reputation of AHN Saint Vincent is undeniable. Honoring both these distinguished physicians not only reflects their individual excellence but also the extraordinary strength of our medical staff,” said AHN Saint Vincent President, Dr. Chris Clark.
